Illinois Quick Hits: Diesel passes $6; unleaded price drops

(The Center Square) – The average price for a gallon of diesel fuel in Illinois has gone over the $6 mark to $6.02 on Monday, according to AAA.

The average price for regular unleaded dropped to $4.97 a gallon. One year ago, the average Illinois prices were $3.41 for unleaded and $3.53 for diesel.

U OF I HOLDS EXAMS AFTER CANVAS RESTORATION

The University of Illinois scheduled final exams on Mother’s Day after the school said Saturday that its learning management platform was restored.

On Friday, U of I announced it was postponing all final exams and assignments through Sunday due to a global cyber attack on the Canvas system.

The university said course instructors would be able to assign a new due date for any final assignments, projects, or other final evaluations that were originally due on Friday or Saturday.

TWO DEAD AFTER PEORIA DISTURBANCE, SHOOTINGS

Illinois State Police are investigating after a reported domestic dispute and officer-involved shooting left two people dead in Peoria.

The Peoria Police Department said in a social media post that officers found a woman involved in the incident shot on Friday evening near Hamilton and Madison streets.

A Peoria officer encountered the suspect, shots were fired and the suspect was struck. Both the female victim and the male suspect were pronounced dead at a local hospital. No officers were injured.

SENTENCE HANDED DOWN IN $10 MILLION THEFT CASE

An Elk Grove Village man has been sentenced to five years in federal prison for stealing more than $10 million in goods, including liquor and commercial-grade copper, from interstate shipments.

Aivaras Zigmantas, 41, pleaded guilty in December after prosecutors said he and others diverted the shipments from their intended destinations and stole the goods.

CONSUMER CREDIT JUMPS, 2% GDP GROWTH PROJECTED

The Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis says the March jump of $24.9 billion in total U.S. consumer credit was the largest monthly increase in a year, following an $8.8 billion rise in February.

On Friday, the St. Louis Economic Index projected second-quarter real GDP growth of 2% at an annual rate.
