Illinois Quick Hits: Woman sentenced for voting twice
(The Center Square) – A Hoopeston woman has been sentenced to three years of probation and ordered to pay a $2,500 fine for voting twice in a federal election.
Brenda Knuth, 61, pleaded guilty in January. Prosecutors say Knuth admitted that she voted early in the November 2024 general election and then voted on election day as well.
LAKE MATTOON DEATH INVESTIGATION
State police have arrested arrested two Plainfield men as part of a death investigation after human remains were found in Lake Mattoon.
James Adams, 26, and Robin Turner, 62, are charged with concealment of a homicide and dismembering a human body.
Last week, ISP special agents identified the victim as Dalewayne Turner, 38, of Plainfield. Police say additional charges are expected.
MONARCH YOUTH CENTER ANNOUNCES GRADUATES
On June 29, three youth in custody of the Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice became the first graduates of an alternative high school at the new Monarch Youth Center in Lincoln.
The center, which opened last fall, provides up to 30 young people in custody with high school education, career and technical training, behavioral and mental health services, and recreation.
The Illinois Capital Development Board provided state taxpayer funding and oversight for the construction of Monarch Youth Center.
STATE TAX RECEIPTS RISE
The Illinois Flash Index for June 2026 rose to 101.4 from 101.1 in May. Individual income tax, corporate tax and sales tax receipts all increased compared to the same month last year after adjusting for inflation.
For the fiscal year ending June 30, combined revenues from the three tax sources were up over the last fiscal year in real terms, led by strong individual income tax receipts.
