Illinois Quick Hits: Chicago TV crew attacked near lakefront
(The Center Square) – Police say charges are pending after a television news reporter and photographer were attacked near Adler Planetarium along Chicago’s lakefront Monday afternoon.
CBS News Chicago said three men in a white tow truck approached as the crew was preparing to go on the air. One suspect allegedly smashed a camera while another smashed the news truck’s windshield.
Three suspects were arrested and a gun was recovered after another alleged attack about 20 minutes later in the Brighton Park neighborhood.
34 ARRESTED DURING CHICAGO PRIDE ACTIVITIES
Chicago police arrested 34 people during the city’s pride parade and its aftermath in the city’s Boystown neighborhood Sunday and early Monday.
CWB Chicago reports that most of the trouble came after the parade ended as crowds flocked to the area and held street parties.
Police said three people faced firearm possession allegations and others were charged with battery of peace officers.
DRAFTKINGS ENDS SPORTSBOOK OPERATIONS AT WRIGLEY FIELD
Tuesday is the last day for in-person cashing at DraftKings’ Wrigley Field location.
The sports wagering company discontinued in-person betting at Wrigley on May 31 “following a review of its Illinois retail presence.”
The Illinois Gaming Board reported declines in sports betting after the state began imposing a per-wager tax last summer.
GOVERNOR SIGNS BILL BANNING BIG CATS IN CIRCUSES
Among the 62 bills signed by Gov. J.B. Pritzker last Friday is legislation that bans the use of lions, tigers, primates and bears in circuses, fairs and other traveling acts.
House Bill 4255 will go into effect Wednesday.
STATE POLICE AIM TO IDENTIFY REMAINS FOUND IN LAKE MATTOON
Illinois State Police are asking for the public’s help to identify a man’s remains that were found in Lake Mattoon on Sunday evening.
ISP says an arm that was found has distinct tattoos, including one of a skeleton holding a Green Bay Packers helmet.
