Illinois Quick Hits: Fuel price drops below $4.25, still higher than in 2025

(The Center Square) – AAA’s average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in Illinois dropped to $4.24 on Friday, down from $5.05 one month ago but up from $3.44 one year ago.

AAA’s national average on Friday was $3.97 per gallon. All of the states bordering Illinois are below $3.80.

LIBERTYVILLE CHIROPRACTOR CONVICTED OF FRAUD

A federal jury has convicted a suburban chiropractor on 13 counts of health care fraud. Seung Han Lim, 42, of Lincolnshire owned and operated Movement Health and Rehab, also known as Motu Chiropractic and Motu Chiromassage in Libertyville.

Prosecutors said Lim fraudulently billed more than $600,000 to Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois for services Lim knew were not actually provided. Sentencing is set for Oct. 22, 2026.

JUNETEENTH EVENTS HELD AROUND ILLINOIS

Juneteenth events are planned across Illinois this weekend.

Rockford is holding its 35th annual Juneteenth celebration on Friday. Aurora, Bloomington and Chicago have events scheduled on Saturday.

Juneteenth commemorates the end of slavery in the United States when Union soldiers landed in Galveston, Texas to announce the end of the Civil War.

GRUNDY COUNTY LAKE REOPENS

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources says Heidecke Lake in Grundy County is reopening to boaters in time for Illinois Free Fishing Weekend, which begins on Friday and runs through Monday.

The traditional April 1 opening of the lake was delayed because of unusually low water levels caused by drought conditions this spring.

IDNR warned that shallow areas persist throughout the lake, which is located near Morris.
