Illinois Quick Hits: Mexican national sentenced for unlawful reentry
(The Center Square) – A Mexican national has been sentenced to 14 months in prison for unlawfully re-entering the United States after multiple deportations.
U.S. government attorneys say Manuel Alberto Cortes Cuan, 38, vigorously resisted arrest and caused injuries to himself and two police officers when they arrested him during a theft investigation in Lyons on June 17.
Cortes Cuan had prior convictions for theft, escape, trespassing, aggravated assault and aggravated DUI. In April, he pleaded guilty to unlawful reentry.
ROCK ISLAND POLICE ARREST 2023 MURDER SUSPECTS
Rock Island police say two people have been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a Galesburg man in 2023.
Columbus, Nebraska police took Dietmar Mouandza, 28, into custody on Sunday. Rock Island police arrested Danejah Vesey, 25, on Monday.
Detectives obtained warrants for both suspects in connection with the killing of Quadril Lawal, 25, on Aug. 23, 2023.
SURVEY SAYS ILLINOISANS SUPPORT PUBLIC FUNDING FOR DOWNTOWN REVIVAL

STATE FAIR VOUCHERS OFFERED TO MUSEUM VISITORS
Illinois State Fair admission vouchers are now available for visitors to the Illinois State Museum’s new Route 66 exhibit in Springfield this summer.
In celebration of the 100th anniversary of Route 66, each exhibit visitor is eligible to receive a voucher for one adult weekday admission to the fair, which runs from Aug. 13 to 23.
The promotion started on Monday and runs for 66 days.
