Frankfort Village Board Meeting | May 18, 2026

The Frankfort Village Board on Monday, May 18, 2026, met in regular session to finalize several high-priority municipal matters. Chief among the evening’s business was the final approval of a heavily modified expansion plan for the American Islamic Association at 8860 W. St. Francis Road, resolving a months-long dispute over neighborhood buffering and parking. Trustees also authorized a “no objection” recommendation for the unincorporated 28-lot Olive Oaks subdivision, while choosing to stay neutral on a contentious street connection dispute between the local fire district and the township highway commissioner.

The meeting also marked the official transition of Frankfort’s administrative team, welcoming Village Administrator John Burica and Assistant Village Administrator Zach Brown to their new seats, while congratulating Will Darling on his promotion to Director of Utilities. Additionally, the board approved more than $1.1 million in capital assets and infrastructure projects, including a new Vactor truck, a dump truck with snow removal equipment, and two major sewer rehabilitation agreements with Robinson Engineering.

News Briefs

Integrated Physical Medicine Special Use Permit Approved
The board approved a Special Use Permit for Integrated Physical Medicine to operate a massage establishment in conjunction with its chiropractic practice at 10305-10309 W. Lincoln Highway. The business is in the process of relocating its New Lenox office to Frankfort. Because the business operates entirely on an appointment basis, the board also approved a parking adjustment allowing the chiropractic and massage clinic to utilize the existing 122 parking spaces in the B-4 Office District complex, finding the current parking supply sufficient to meet peak demands.

Board Approves $1.11 Million Bill Schedule
The Village Board approved the payment of accounts payable totaling $1,011,947.64. Notable disbursements included $422,074.59 from the General Corporate Fund and $425,219.32 from the Sewer & Water Extension Fund. Trustee Maura Rigoni highlighted a major payment to Iroquois Paving Corporation for the ongoing water main installation project along Hawthorne Drive and Heather Lane in the Prestwick subdivision.

Kansas Street Closure for Al Fresco Dining
Mayor Keith Ogle announced the seasonal closure of Kansas Street, between Ash Street and Oak Street, beginning Thursday, May 21, 2026. The annual initiative suspends vehicular traffic to accommodate expanded outdoor dining for downtown restaurants and businesses. To enhance the downtown aesthetic, public works crews will install additional benches and decorative planters along the corridor to create an inviting public space for residents and visitors throughout the summer months.

Memorial Day Ceremony Planned at Breidert Green
Frankfort’s annual Memorial Day ceremony is scheduled for Monday, May 25, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Breidert Green. The event, held in partnership with VFW Post 1493, will feature a keynote address by Will County Deputy State’s Attorney Ken Gray and a musical performance by the Hickory Creek Middle School Symphonic Band. In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be relocated to the Founders Center at 140 Oak Street.

Frankfort Public Library Celebrates 60 Years
The Frankfort Public Library District will host its 60th birthday party on Thursday, May 28, 2026, from 10:00 AM to noon. Mayor Keith Ogle expressed the village board’s sincere appreciation to the library district for six decades of community education and service, directing residents to the library’s website for additional details on the milestone celebration.

Summer Kickoff Features “America 250” Theme
Frankfort will launch its summer season on Sunday, May 31, 2026, with a patriotic celebration marking America’s semi-quincentennial. The Chamber of Commerce’s annual Community Showcase and the Country Market will run from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. The Summer Kickoff will begin at 4:00 PM at Breidert Green with stilt walkers, face painters, and balloon artists. The Blooze Brothers Band will perform a live concert at 6:30 PM, followed by a 10-minute firework display launched from Prairie Park.

Porch Decorating Contest Announced
In connection with the country’s upcoming 250th anniversary, the village is launching a patriotic edition of its Summer Beautification Award Program. Residents are encouraged to decorate their front porches in red, white, and blue. Homeowners can nominate their own properties or those of their neighbors by emailing Sue Lynchey at [email protected] before June 30. Selected properties will receive a commemorative America 250 lawn sign.

Get Hooked on Frankfort Fishing Derby Winners
Mayor Keith Ogle announced the winners of the annual “Get Hooked on Frankfort” Fishing Derby, which took place Saturday, May 16, 2026, at Prairie Park. In the 3-to-7 age division, 7-year-old Asher Sawyer caught the most fish (19), while 6-year-old Benjamin Ezos caught the largest fish (9 inches). In the 8-to-12 division, 10-year-old Delilah Jenkins of Mokena caught the most fish (27), and 12-year-old Liam Woodlock landed the biggest fish (7.5 inches).

Next Board Meeting Scheduled
Clerk Katie Schubert announced that the next regular meeting of the Frankfort Village Board will be held on Monday, June 1, 2026. The session will combine the regular board meeting and a meeting of the Committee of the Whole. Schubert noted that the meeting will mark the formal transition to summer business casual attire for the board.
