IL PRESCHOOL ACCESS RANKING SLIPS AS STATE SPENDING RISES

The National Institute for Early Education Research’s 2025 State of Preschool Yearbook says Illinois remained 20th in the nation for preschool access for 4-year-olds and fell from third to fourth in serving 3-year-olds.

The report said state spending rose seven percent over the previous year when adjusted for inflation.

Illinois enrolled 35% of its four-year-olds and 26% of three-year-olds in state-funded pre-K in 2024-2025.

CHICAGO FED REPORTS LOOSER CONDITIONS, GROWTH ABOVE TREND

The Chicago Fed Survey of Economic Conditions Activity Index has seen little change in the last month, decreasing from +22 in March to +17 in April, but the measure still suggests that economic growth is above trend.

The Chicago Fed’s National Financial Conditions Index decreased to –0.50 in the week ending April 17, suggesting looser financial conditions where credit is considered to be easier and cheaper for businesses and consumers.
