Will County Public Works & Transportation Committee Meeting | April 7, 2026

The Will County Board Public Works & Transportation Committee met on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, moving forward a massive slate of infrastructure contracts totaling nearly $10 million. Beyond the high-profile speed limit debates on Cedar Road and the initiation of the Bluff Road reconstruction, the committee swiftly approved a series of construction awards and Phase II design contracts to prep the county for the summer building season. Assistant County Engineer Brian Gizki reported that pre-construction meetings are already being scheduled, with asphalt plants expected to open by early April.

Francis Road Construction Awarded: The committee confirmed the award of a $2,984,218.25 contract to Austin Tyler Construction, Inc. for the reconstruction and widening of Francis Road (CH 64). The project, which spans from Gougar Road (CH 52) to I-80, includes storm sewer installation, drainage ditch improvements, and retaining wall construction. During construction, the roadway will be closed to through traffic.

Plainfield Township and Renwick Road Resurfacing: P.T. Ferro Construction Co. secured two major resurfacing contracts. The first, a $958,266.60 contract, covers Renwick Road (CH 36) from east of U.S. Route 30 to west of Weber Road. The second, a $194,014.90 contract, covers various Plainfield Township roadways, including Williamsburg Drive, Jamestown Road, and Virginia Drive. Both projects are slated to begin in June 2026.

Traffic Signal System Upgrades: The committee approved a $140,783.00 Phase II design agreement with AECOM Technical Services, Inc. to modernize traffic signals and incorporate them into the county’s Centralized Traffic Signal System (CTSS) via fiber optic cable. The upgrades cover 14 intersections across Plainfield-Naperville Road, Briggs Street, Francis Road, Laraway Road, and 191st Street, and include the installation of 13 pan/tilt/zoom traffic cameras.

Laraway Road Right-of-Way Acquisition: To prepare for the future widening of Laraway Road (CH 74) at U.S. Route 45, the committee appropriated $1,409,940.00 in transportation funds to acquire necessary right-of-way. The funds authorize the county to negotiate with property owners or, if necessary, utilize eminent domain to secure the land required for new turn lanes and traffic signals.

Bridge Maintenance Design Contract: Willett, Hofmann & Associates was awarded a $227,361.00 Phase II design contract to engineer maintenance and repair work for 12 various county highway bridges. The targeted structures span multiple county board districts and include crossings over the Des Plaines River, Prairie Creek, Plum Creek, and the South Branch of Forked Creek.
