The Illinois State Police (ISP) is conducting an independent investigation into a fatal officer-involved shooting that occurred on April 8, 2026, involving members of the Bradley Police Department.

At approximately 12:46 p.m., Bradley Police officers were dispatched to the 600 block of Jonette Avenue in Bradley to conduct a well-being check. Upon arriving at the location, officers encountered a male subject who was armed with a bladed weapon, according to the ISP report.

Preliminary details indicate that the suspect disobeyed the officers’ explicit orders to stop. The individual reportedly continued to advance on the responding officers, at which point the officers discharged their weapons, striking the suspect.

Following the shooting, the officers rendered medical aid on the scene until Emergency Medical Services (EMS) personnel arrived. The suspect was then transported to an area hospital, where he was subsequently pronounced deceased. Authorities confirmed that no officers were injured during the incident.

At the request of the Bradley Police Department, the ISP Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 1 is leading the inquiry into the use of force. ISP Special Agents are tasked with completing a thorough, timely, and independent investigation into the events surrounding the shooting.

Once the ISP investigation is completed, the agency will turn the case over to the Kankakee County State’s Attorney for official review. Authorities noted that the investigation remains active and ongoing, and no additional information is available at this time.
