Illinois Quick Hits: Report shows Illinois with highest U.S. tax rates
(The Center Square) – A new survey says Illinois has the highest tax rates in the country.
According to a WalletHub report released on Wednesday, the Land of Lincoln has the highest state and local taxes and the highest annual tax rates on median households, coming in 53% higher than the U.S. average.
The lowest tax rates were found in Alaska, Delaware and Wyoming.

Authorities say a gunfight between two men outside a Chicago public high school during afternoon dismissal involved an 18-year-old who was on felony pretrial release.
CWB Chicago reports that no injuries were reported during the January 22 incident, which forced administrators to put Austin College and Career Academy High School on an hour-long lockdown.
Nehemiyah Santiago, 18, is charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm toward a school and aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon, but he was only recently arrested.
The second gunman is not identified in court filings and it is unclear if he has been charged.
