Superintendent Dr. Doug Wernet spoke about Wonder’s profound impact on the school community, describing him as a beloved colleague known for his enthusiasm.
“His energy, joy, and unwavering positivity made a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him,” Hickory Creek Principal Tricia Dotson said in a district release.
Beyond his role in the music classroom, Wonder was a central figure in the school’s culture. He frequently DJed pep assemblies and greeted students with music at the school entrance. He also played a key role in establishing “Tiger TV,” a student-led media program, and led initiatives to raise awareness for cystic fibrosis.
The district noted that support services have been made available for students and staff coping with the loss.
