Frankfort Square Park District Meeting | Nov. 20, 2025

Article Summary: The Frankfort Square Park District is wrapping up major renovations at Hunter Prairie Park and several other capital projects. The district also secured a grant to implement a new environmentally friendly weed control system.

Maintenance and Projects Key Points:

  • Project Completion: Renovations at Hunter Prairie Park, the Square Links chipping area, and new dance studios are substantially complete.

  • New Tech: The district was one of 18 agencies to receive a PDRMA grant for a “Foamstream” weed control system.

  • Equipment Disposal: The board authorized the sale or disposal of unused equipment, including an air compressor and a donut machine.

Major construction projects across the Frankfort Square Park District are reaching the finish line, Superintendent of Parks Ed Reidy reported to the Board of Commissioners on Wednesday, November 20, 2025.

Reidy confirmed that the Hunter Prairie Park renovation, the chipping and practice area at Square Links, and three new dance studios are mostly finished. While punch list items remain, Reidy stated the projects will evolve as the district learns what is needed for day-to-day use.

The Hunter Prairie project experienced delays due to permit issues earlier in the year, but Executive Director Audrey Marcquenski noted the site is now ready for a visit from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.

In maintenance news, Marcquenski reported that the district was awarded a $2,500 Risk Management Grant from PDRMA. The funds will support the purchase of “Foamstream,” an environmentally friendly weed control system that uses heat rather than harsh chemicals. The district was one of only 18 agencies chosen out of 54 applicants for the grant.

The board also unanimously approved Ordinance 25-11-367, authorizing the disposal of property no longer necessary for the district. Items listed for disposal or sale included a Husky air compressor, a leaf collector, a scanner, an upright freezer from the 1980s, a 2011 donut machine, and a ball washer.
