FRANKFORT – The Village of Frankfort is moving forward with a significant infrastructure improvement to its trail system after the Village Board approved funding agreements with the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) on Monday, December 1, 2025.

The Board adopted a resolution authorizing a Joint Funding Agreement for State Participation and a Local Public Agency Engineering Services Agreement for the Laraway Road/Pfeiffer Road Multi-Use Path project.

“The Village of Frankfort seeks to participate in the construction of a multi-use path… closing a 1.5-mile gap in the existing trail network,” said Trustee Dan Rossi.

The path will be constructed along the east side of Pfeiffer Road from Sauk Trail to Laraway Road, and along the north side of Laraway Road from Pfeiffer Road to 80th Avenue.

Trustee Rossi noted that the Village was awarded a $1,632,175 grant for the project through the Illinois Transportation Enhancement Program (ITEP).

The resolution also authorized an agreement with Robinson Engineering, Ltd. to provide preliminary and design engineering services. The total cost for these services is $300,525. Under the terms of the grant, state funds will cover $240,420 (80%), leaving the Village’s local share at $60,105 (20%).

Trustee Maura Rigoni abstained from the vote on this specific item, noting for the record that she is a part-time employee of Robinson Engineering. The measure passed with the support of the remaining trustees.
