Meeting Summary and Briefs: Frankfort Public Library District for September 2025
The Frankfort Public Library District Board of Trustees approved its 2025 tax levies and took steps toward future cost savings by authorizing a consultant to explore community solar energy options. The board also passed a revised meeting room policy that will restrict use of the spaces to in-district groups starting in 2026. Other business included approving contracts for flooring replacement and an engineering survey for the library’s ongoing renovation projects. The board also received positive financial news in the treasurer’s report and an update from the Friends of the Library on their successful fundraising efforts.
Sorting Room Floor to be Replaced
The board approved a $1,605 proposal from Flooring America to replace the floor in the circulation sorting room. The motion, made by Trustee Meszaros and seconded by Trustee Otway, passed in a roll call vote. The library plans to have the two-day installation take place in October, with one of the days coinciding with a staff in-service day to minimize disruption.
Engineering Survey Approved for Reading Room Project
As part of its ongoing renovation plans, the board unanimously approved a $3,450 proposal from Ridgeline Consultants for an engineering survey. The survey will create a topography map of the area around the planned Reading Room to ensure proper grading. According to the Building & Grounds Committee report, proposals for the Reading Room project are expected to be presented to the board in January 2026.
Friends of the Library Reports Record Book Sale Fundraising
Jeff Slovak, liaison for the Friends of the Library, reported that the organization’s September book sale was a great success. He announced that the Friends have already exceeded the total amount raised from all of last year’s book sales. The group will host an art market in November and will also be holding a membership drive.
Library’s 60th Birthday in the Works
According to the Strategic Plan Committee report, plans for the library’s 60th birthday are underway. The committee noted that discussion among departments has begun to optimize programming, with the celebration planned for the spring of 2026.
August Bills Approved
The board approved the payment of bills for August 2025. A motion was made by Trustee Faris and seconded by Trustee Otway, passing with a unanimous roll call vote. The treasurer’s report noted that library expenses are currently 3% under budget.
