Frankfort Park District Meeting | September, 2025

The Frankfort Park District Board of Commissioners learned on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, that the grand opening of the new Fort Frankfort playground has been delayed until spring 2026 due to issues with equipment manufacturing and coating. The board also discussed the status of a state DCEO grant for master planning, clarifying that it is waiting on the state to provide a formal agreement. For more details on the playground and the grant, see our full stories.

In other news, the board approved monthly bills, received updates on various park projects, and heard from a resident about park maintenance.

EV Charging Stations Nearing Installation
The park district is close to installing electric vehicle charging stations after ComEd approved its application for rebates. According to the Building and Grounds report, the charging units are in stock and will be installed by Excel Electric as soon as adjacent sidewalk work is completed.

Resident Raises Mowing, Safety Concerns at Kohlhagen Park
The board received an email from a resident of Cardinal Lake regarding maintenance at Kohlhagen Park. The resident noted that mowing every two weeks has led to an increase in weeds and tall grass. The email also mentioned a person had been found sleeping in a portable toilet at the park. Staff reported that the portable toilet was a temporary installation and has already been removed.

Raccoon “Invasion” at Sara Springs
Staff reported a “raccoon invasion” at the Sara Springs building. A professional trapping service was called and has successfully trapped the animals. Park staff will now work on fixing the fascia and soffit of the building to repair the damage.

Fall Recreation Programs Filling Up
The Recreation Department reported that fall registration is going well. The Family Campout is scheduled for September 12, followed by the Mother/Child Dance on September 26. The Pre-School and Prairie Care programs are also nearly at capacity.

Website Redesign Underway
The park district has begun a complete redesign of its website. The process is expected to be ongoing, with a new site projected to launch in the spring of 2026.

President Thanks Staff and Community
Board President Michael McCarey offered a heartfelt thank you to all park district staff for their hard work, particularly in organizing their participation in the Frankfort Fall Fest parade, which allowed board members to take part.
