Meeting Summary and Briefs: Frankfort Square Park District for July 17, 2025

Spread the love

The Frankfort Square Park District Board of Commissioners on Thursday, July 17, 2025, heard positive updates on major capital projects and celebrated the national success of its BDC dance program. Executive Director Audrey Marcquenski reported that the Hunter Prairie Park redevelopment is moving into the excavation and grading phase after completing demolition. The board also heard a presentation detailing numerous awards won by the BDC dance team at a national competition in South Carolina. For more details, please see our full stories on the park redevelopment and the BDC program’s achievements.

Financial Reports Approved
The board voted unanimously to accept the June Treasurer’s Report and the June Accounts Payable listing. According to the June 30 financial statement, the district’s total fund balance was $3,813,617.63. President Craig Maksymiak accepted the treasurer’s report on behalf of the board, pending a final audit.

New Practice Area at Square Links Completed
Hollembeak Construction has completed work on the new practice area at the Square Links Golf Course. Park district staff and contractors are now carefully watering and tending to the new sod and grass seed to ensure it establishes properly. The district looks forward to making the improved practice area available to the public next year.

College Scholarship Golf Classic Approaches
Sponsorship letters have been mailed for the annual College Scholarship Golf Classic, the park district’s largest fundraising event. The classic, scheduled for September 20, 2025, has enabled the district to award $161,000 in college scholarships since 2006. Board members agreed to again participate in the “Beat the Board Member” challenge to help raise funds during the event.

Resident Request for Park Bench Fulfilled
A resident who requested a park bench along the Brookside Glen walking path to aid in a therapeutic walking routine was recently accommodated. Superintendent of Parks Ed Reidy arranged for the purchase and installation of the bench and also added a tree. Two additional benches are planned for the path between Brookside Glen Drive and 80th Avenue.

District to Offer Text Message Updates
The park district is implementing an option for residents to receive text message updates for programs they are enrolled in. The move comes after staff noticed a decrease in the number of residents opening and reading email updates. The texting option is intended to provide a more efficient method of communication for the upcoming fall program season.

Early Childhood Camp Sees Record Participation
The Early Childhood Summer Camp is experiencing record-high participation this year. The program, led by Amanda Salgado, has been enhanced with weekly themes, creative activities, and guest speakers. Fall program registration for residents is scheduled to begin on August 21.
