The Frankfort Township Board on Monday, July 14, 2025, primarily focused on zoning matters, unanimously denying special use permits for two businesses, Dimitri Best Food and Kismet Restaurant, that sought liquor licenses with the intent to add video gaming. However, the board approved two residential requests for a shed variance and an accessibility-related home expansion. A full story on the zoning decisions is available.

The board also heard from Highway Commissioner Bill Carlson, who provided an update on the department’s recent acquisition of new equipment, including leaf vacuums and a woodchipper, to replace machinery that is up to 20 years old. More details on the highway department’s upgrades can be found in a separate article.

Township Projects Moving Forward
Supervisor Nick George announced that he will be meeting with Harbour to review and finalize the floor plans for the new township Food Pantry. He also reported that upgrades are continuing on a senior apartment, which is being fitted with new flooring, cabinets, and safety amenities in the shower as units become vacant.

Trustee Thanks Volunteers for 175th Birthday Event
Trustee Dave Smith publicly thanked the board, staff, and the many volunteers for their help and participation in Frankfort Township’s 175th birthday celebration, which was held on June 14, 2025. Supervisor George added his thanks, noting, “The band was great.”
