MONEE — The Monee Village Board on Wednesday unanimously approved a special use permit for Sheepdog Firearms, clearing the way for the business to operate a retail store and shooting range.
The board voted 6-0 to pass an ordinance granting the permit for the property located at 25812 S. Sunset Drive. The action came after the Monee Planning & Zoning Commission held a public hearing on the matter on July 16 and returned a favorable recommendation to the board.
According to application documents, the business, formally named Firearms Inc., plans to use the C-1 zoned commercial property for “retail and range operations,” including the sale of ammunition.
Village Attorney Larry Gryczewski presented the ordinance to the board, noting the positive recommendation from the zoning board. “A public hearing was held before the zoning board of appeals I believe last week,” Gryczewski said. “They gave a favorable recommendation to issue the special use permit.”
The approval was first placed on the consent agenda, which is typically reserved for routine items, indicating broad support. The board later formalized the decision with a roll call vote during the attorney’s report, passing Ordinance 2091 without further discussion.
