Frankfort Park District Kicks Off Busy Summer Season with Races and New Events
The Frankfort Park District is in full summer swing, with a packed schedule of programs and events that includes an expanded day camp, new community parties, and the 25th anniversary of its popular road race.
During the June 10 board meeting, staff highlighted the success of recent and upcoming activities. The Recreation Team reported that the “Short Run on a Long Day” is celebrating its 25th year and has already attracted 323 runners and 16 sponsors. The annual race is a cornerstone of the district’s summer offerings.
Building on community engagement, the district launched a new “Park Party” series, with the first event on June 9 at Windy Hill Park drawing a strong crowd. According to the recreation report, the party was “well attended” and featured bubbles, a DJ, and ice cream. Commissioner Ruvoli, who attended, noted there were “a lot of positive comments” from residents.
Core services are also seeing high demand. The Full Day Camp, which began on June 9, has been expanded into two groups to accommodate more children, and the Splash Park successfully opened for the season on May 30.
“The Recreation Team has been busy with the summer programming,” stated Stacy Proper, Superintendent of Recreation, in her report. Staff is also working with sponsors for special giveaway days at the splash pad and has already begun planning the Fall Brochure and recruiting instructors for new programs.
